FUKUSHIMA —

Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako made a one-day trip to Koriyama in Fukushima Prefecture on Sunday to encourage people displaced by the nuclear crisis who are still living in temporary housing.

The couple received a big welcome when they arrived by train at Koriyama Station, TBS reported. They visited a temporary housing block where about 80 mostly elderly people from Futaba reside. Futaba is in the no-entry zone around the stricken Daiichi nuclear power plant.

In the afternoon, the crown prince and crown princess then went to a technical research institute to observe how products are monitored for radiation, TBS reported. They finished the day by visiting an indoor sports venue set up so that children can play without having to worry about radiation.

The couple were last in Fukushima in July 2011. Last month, they visited Miyagi Prefecture. They returned to Tokyo on Sunday night.
